Get Your Toddler to Do The Business With These Potty Training Incentive Ideas
Okay hands up if your toddler is refusing to even go near their potty?! Yep mine was too a few weeks ago until I found some potty training incentives that work!
I like to called these potty training bribes as technically you are using them to encourage your strong willed determined toddler to either sit on the potty and wait to pee or tell you when they need to pee and then get to said potty in time to do this. I will admit it is difficult and these potty training reward ideas will not work if your little one is not physically ready.
It is important to give them something they do not get all the time, it has to be something special and something they really want. I asked my little girl some things she liked, in fact I even had her point them out. I then explained to her that Mummy was going to buy these for her if she could pee and poop on her potty.
I am going to give you my list of potty training bribes right here!
Amelia’s Potty Training Incentive Ideas
- Sweater Dresses – My little girl is fashion conscious already and loves clothes. I rarely buy her jumper dresses so this is one thing I have promised if she manages to use the potty successfully! She has picked a beautiful navy one with a cat and matching striped tights.
- Peppa Pig Pants – my goodness Amelia was so pleased when she realised she could wear some Peppa Pig panties. She thought they looked way better than her pull up nappies! Initial problem was she thought they were a nappy too and she wouldn’t get wet wearing them (that changed pretty quickly when she was too ‘busy’ to get to the potty in time).
- My Little Pony Figures – what do you want for Christmas Amelia was the question we asked and got the reply – ponies please! So since I was potty training in early November I thought I would try and tempt Amelia with some ponies and it was definitely one of the best potty training reward ideas. These toys for potty training are a great incentive in my opinion.
- Chocolate Eggs– Amelia gets a small packet of gummy sweets everyday after her lunch, however her ultimate favorite sweet treat are chocolate eggs with toys inside. She loves the character ones like Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol. I used these as potty training bribes and told her she would not be getting one unless she sat on the potty and did the business.
More Potty Training Reward Ideas
I could probably list hundreds of potty training incentive ideas but you need to listen to your toddler and find out what they want. It might be the latest Paw Patrol toy vehicle, a mini Thomas figure or a PJ masks playset, if they want it, it can be used as a potty training bribe!
How about a trip to their favorite play park or indoor amusements. Remember this will not work if you go here regular, it has to be something that is a special treat.
One of my favorite potty training reward ideas was inviting Amelia’s little friend over to play for a while. The bonus was that she is also potty training so Amelia could see that she used the potty (it was like they were learning together 🙂 ).
I hope you find these incentives and potty training ideas for toddlers helpful. Hopefully they will help if your toddler won’t potty train.
